The Ride for Kids motorcycle charity rides originated in Atlanta in 1084 when a family had a child diagnosed with a brain tumor and some local bikers got together to help that family with expenses. At the height of the Ride for Kids campaign, there were 22 rides across the country, all doing the same thing – raising money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PTBF) so they can continue to support their mission to Care for those kids, Cure them of this horrible disease, and help them Thrive.  

I have been volunteering at various capacities for the Chicagoland Ride for Kids for 25 years come July and as you all know bikers have big hearts which is why I’ve been involved for so long. Now I am asking you for your support.  One of our favorite elements of the Ride for Kids is that we partner our Stars, kids battling brain tumors, with a biker: bagger, trike, bike with a sidecar, slingshot, whatever (depending on the health of the Star). We also ride the siblings too if we have enough VIP escorts.

We could use help from the chapter in the following ways:

- Help us get the word out using your calendar and social media.
- Encourage your Road Captains to help with the ride itself. We intend to have police assistance (probably not ISP escort) at the major intersections on the route. With the help of  the Punishers, LAMA, and various other HOG Chapter Road Captains, we want to ensure a safe ride for our participants. Where we can do so safely, we will block. Where we can’t we ask RCs to come to the front of a splinter group to pull the group back together if possible, if not then lead that group in.
- We could also use help with registration, set up tables/chairs, and parking coordination.
- Encourage your membership at large to attend this event to help our Stars and their families.

Obviously, as a volunteer organization we are grateful for any of the above support we can get from FRHOG, in any capacity.
